Minor Oral Surgery

What we do
The service provides a range of oral surgical procedures for patients referred by their general dental practitioner.

The Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) service is carried out by specialist oral Surgeons and dentists with special interests in oral surgery. You can be referred for MOS from a general dental practitioner. Our specialist oral surgeons will carry out an initial assessment and complete any necessary surgical treatment under local anaesthesia.

Appointments
We provide this service throughout the week from our clinics in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, Newmarket, Peterborough and Wisbech.  Patients are invited to make appointments at a suitable location. Once an appointment is made, you will receive full address details, a map and what to expect with your appointment letter.

Treatment

Most treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia (numbing injection in the mouth) and it is likely you will receive treatment at this first appointment. However, if your treatment needs doing under sedation or with general anaesthesia, you will only be assessed at this first appointment and may need an onward referral to an alternative service. If you have been referred for more than one tooth to be removed, you may need more than one appointment.

How to prepare

  • Please be prepared to remove any facial jewellery and/or earrings if asked, as x-rays may be taken if required at this appointment.
  • Ideally you should not cycle to your appointment as you may have treatment on the same day.
  • It is important you continue to take any medications (unless we have instructed you otherwise).
  • Please eat prior to the appointment.
  • It is important you read any relevant information or leaflets attached to your correspondence as this could lead to a delay in your treatment.
  • If you carry a medical warning card, please bring this with you.

Medical history

Medical history questionnaires will be linked or attached in your appointment confirmation correspondence. Please complete this before your visit and bring this with you to your appointment, or if this is done online, this will automatically upload into your profile on our system. If you did not receive a link or form for this then please ensure you arrive 15 minutes early to complete it in clinic.

Cancelling

Should you be unable to keep this appointment please cancel at least 48 hours beforehand. If you fail to attend this appointment you will be discharged back to your dental practitioner and no further appointments will be offered at this time.
